Rodney Green - Founder

Our Story

In 1959 a young 11-year-old Rodney Green began working for extra money – and began an appetite for business. Rodney soon discovered that the only way or the best way to succeed was just plain hard work. Rodney became a completely ‘hands on’ businessman, who for the last 63 years has worked hard and seen gains and losses. He does not dwell on the losses just simply puts his energy and enthusiasm into the next project! For Rodney this worked well, there have been a few business changes over the years.
In 1998 approaching his 50th milestone birthday Rodney made the decision to do something very ‘special’ for Napier. That something special was a $1million funding injection into the McLean Park Trust, after some deliberation by the Trust Board this generous donation was re-targeted for the proposed new arena at Taradale. This stadium, Pettigrew Green Arena now plays a vital part in the Hawke’s Bay region.
For Rodney, this decision started an idea that he could use the benefit of the result of this hard work to do more good in the community and to leave a legacy for Hawkes Bay for years to come. Still a hard worker now in his 70’s, Rodney became inspired to form the Rodney Green Foundation, joined by his brother Clinton and a colleague who over the years, has provided support and become friends, John McCorkindale (Accountant) is now a valued Trustee for the Foundation.
